‘Iran-Egypt ties benefit Islamic goals’

“The Islamic Republic of Iran and Egypt, as two significant poles of the Muslim world, must work toward the promotion of their relations to the benefit of Islamic causes,” Larijani said in a meeting with a number of Egyptian journalists in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Saturday.

He said Iran and Egypt shared numerous religious, cultural and historical commonalities that bonded them together.

He underlined the necessity for the settlement of existing challenges facing the world of Islam, highlighting the need for Muslim countries to maintain unity to thwart enemy plots.

Commenting on sanctions against Iran over its nuclear energy program, Larijani said the West used Tehran’s peaceful atomic program as a pretext to prevent scientific progress of the country.

He said hegemonic powers were implementing colonial-style policies in a modern way to impede the scientific progress of Muslim countries.

The Egyptian journalists also called for unity among Islamic countries in the face of enemy plots aimed at creating division among them.
