Iran and Turkey have enormous political and economic potential to expand cooperation, said Salehi in a meeting with Turkish Minister of Development Cevdet Yilmaz in Tehran on Monday.
He pointed to the latest round of negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 –Britain, China, France, Russia, and the US plus Germany– in the Turkish city of Istanbul and added that the talks achieved “positive” outcomes.
The Iranian minister expressed hope that the upcoming talks between Iran and the P5+1 would also end in good results.
Representatives of Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany — held the latest round of talks in Istanbul on April 14. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the general atmosphere of the negotiations and agreed to continue talks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on May 23.
The Turkish minister, for his part, said Tehran and Ankara enjoy an appropriate atmosphere for the expansion of relations.
Yilmaz called for the continuation of meetings between the two countries’ officials at different levels.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Vice President for International Affairs Ali Saeedlou, in a meeting with the Turkish minister of development, said improved Tehran and Ankara ties would benefit both sides and lead to the progress of regional countries.
He cautioned against plots hatched by arrogant powers to obstruct the path of cooperation and stated, “They know that an increase in the level of economic and political cooperation between Tehran and Ankara can endanger their own interests in the region.”
