The Iranian squad defeated Taiwan 71-63 at Tokyo’s Ota Gymnasium in the preliminary round of the tourney on Monday.
The team has already won India 83-71 in its first match, and Qatar 85-75 in its second encounter.
Samad Nikkhah Bahrami scored 24 points for Iran to stand on top of the score sheet of the tournament for points per game while Lei Tien was the Taiwanese top scorer of the game with 17 points.
Iran has been grouped with Japan, Qatar, Taiwan, and India in Group B at the fourth FIBA Asia Cup, which kicked off on September 14 in the Japanese capital.
The Philippines is on top of Group A followed by China, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, and Makau.
The Iranian b-ballers will take on Japan on September 18.
The FIBA Asia Cup, which was known as the FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup between 2004 and 2010, is a tournament held every two years.
The winner of this year’s FIBA Asia Cup will automatically qualify for the upcoming FIBA Asia Championship which is slated for 2013.
