Rahimi made the remarks at a gathering of Iranian nationals residing in Lebanon on Wednesday.
He referred to the country’s imports of USD 60 billion in the last Iranian year and said if the intended target for exports is achieved this year, it would be the first time that the value of the country’s exports exceed that of its imports.
The Iranian official put the value of Iran’s non-oil exports in the last Iranian year at more than USD 48.5 billion.
Heading a politico-economic delegation, Rahimi arrived in the Lebanese capital of Beirut on Wednesday morning for a two-day visit at the invitation of Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
Rahimi further said his visit was aimed at supporting the Lebanese government and announcing the Islamic republic’s readiness to help Lebanon meet its demands. He also referred to the two countries’ cooperation plan in the field of producing electricity.
Meanwhile, in a Wednesday meeting, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Ali Nikzad, who is also in Lebanon, met with Lebanese Finance Minister Mohammed al-Safadi. The two discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in the fields of dam building and electricity.
Al-Safadi expressed his country’s willingness to remove the obstacles in enhancing Tehran-Beirut relations.
Nikzad, for his part, voiced Iran’s readiness to help Lebanon construct power plants and dams.
The Iranian minister arrived in Beirut on Tuesday to attend the seventh session of the Iran-Lebanon Joint Commission.
