Iran after fate of missing diplomats

In a statement on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the abduction of the four diplomats, Iran’s Foreign Ministry reiterated its request to establish an international fact finding committee which has remained unanswered by the UN.

The Foreign Ministry urged the international community, particularly UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and supporters of Israel to mount pressure on Tel Aviv to determine the fate of the Iranian diplomats.

The statement added that the release of the four diplomats has always been one of the main priorities of the Foreign Ministry and that it has made every effort in this regard by using its diplomatic, political, legal and consular capacities.

On July 4, 1982, four Iranian diplomats — Ahmad Motevaselian, Seyyed Mohsen Mousavi, Taqi Rastegar Moqaddam and Kazem Akhavan — were kidnapped by a group of Israel-backed gunmen at an inspection point in northern Lebanon.

They were last heard of on June 2008, when the Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement received a report indicating that the diplomats were alive and held captive by Israel.
