FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda Speaking on the national day of banning the use of chemical and biological weapons, Mohammad Esmaeili, noted that the world’s “arrogant powers” are mass producers of such weapons, IRNA reported on Friday.
“International organizations act in accordance with decisions and commands of these countries,” the lawmaker who is member of Iran Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, added.
He added that hegemonic powers were the main supporters of the former Iraqi Baath regime’s use of chemical weapons against Iranian civilians and military forces during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war against Iran.
“All chemical weapons used during the eight-year imposed war had been sold to Iraq by Western countries and superpowers,” the MP stated.
Esmaeili stated that the former Baathist regime of Iraq spared no effort to carry out criminal acts against Iran during the imposed war, adding that the use of chemical weapons was the biggest crime committed by that regime against the Iranian people.
He reiterated Iran’s opposition to the use of weapons of mass destruction, saying that the Islamic Republic has voiced its objection to international organizations regarding this issue.
During the Iraq-Iran war, the US supplied former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein with chemical weapons. The dictator also ordered the use of 2,500 tons of chemical weapons against five Iranian border provinces.
Nearly 100,000 Iranians were affected by nerve and mustard gases used during the Western-backed Iraq-imposed war and nearly one in every 10 died before receiving any treatment.
About 5,000 to 6,000 Iranians are still receiving medical treatment for the painful effects of Iraqi chemical weapons.
As one of the main victims of chemical weapons, Iran has repeatedly asked Washington to abide by international law calling for the eradication of its stockpiles of such weapons.
