Indian journalist mentally tortured: Family

“My father is a journalist with impeccable credentials. He has been targeted by the police and there is no evidence against him,” Kazmi’s son Shauzab said on Friday, describing his father as a “national hero.”

Kazmi’s son added that his father is under mental pressure as eight to ten police officers interrogate him at a time.

Kazmi was amongst the very few Indian journalists who covered the US occupation of Iraq in 2003 from the war ground.

On March 6, police in India arrested Kazmi on charges of having contacts with a suspect they believe may have stuck a magnetic bomb on the car of an Israeli diplomat’s wife.

The police have claimed that the motorcycle found at Kazmi’s house was used by the suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, to carry out the attack.

However, Kazmi’s family says that the motorcycle has been parked at their residence for the last 2 years.

“We have never used this scooty. It belongs to my uncle who purchased it when he visited Delhi two years back,” Shauzab said.

“He has been arrested because he has sided with Iran on various issues including the latest Israel-Iran standoff. He has also reported on Syria in recent times where he has debunked western position on protests in that country,” a Senior Indian journalist Syed Naqvi says.

Informed sources say Indian police have arrested Kazmi under pressure from Israel spy agency, Mossad, in order to investigate the false allegation of attacking the Israeli diplomat’s wife.
