James Walsh and readers put together ten good reasons why hopping on your bike is the best thing ever. They include freedom, speed, fitness, savings, biophilia, environmentalism and fun.

Rivers, seashores and mountains come to life when you’re on a bike. Quicker than walking but slow and gentle enough to take in the sights sounds and smells of both the animal and human kingdoms. Ernest Hemingway said, “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.”

This is perhaps the most inane article about cycling I have ever read. Two women, clearly having a good time, in a bike lane, are doing what people do, enjoying life on their bikes. ““It is outrageous to see behaviour like this still happening on our roads,” Sen-Sgt Young said.”

Olympic gold medal cyclist and Gold Coast active travel ambassador Sara Carrigan said the behaviour of the two women was “disappointing” and tarnished the image of all cyclists. I feel a bit disappointed. We have to respect the rules so cyclists have respect on the roads.This doesn’t bode well for cyclists.”
