PA-based Company The Merrick Group, Inc. inspects, cleans and maintains local, national and international power plants.

During their recent inspection of Duke Energy‘s Catawba Nuclear Station, The Merrick Group, Inc. technicians inspected and pressure tested 11,000 tubes, identifying a number of leaks. This is the sort of important work undertaken by The Merrick Group. The company cleans, inspects and performs maintenance on power plants to help ensure site safety and operational efficiency, as was seen at this York County, SC nuclear plant.

Nuclear power plant safety is easy to appreciate, especially to those working on-site or residing nearby. Efficiency keeps overhead costs down, which in turn limits consumer-level expenses. It also contributes to lower emissions and less ecological impact overall. In these and other ways, services rendered by The Merrick Group benefit energy producers, consumers and the environment.

Along with its work at the Catawba Nuclear Station, The Merrick Group also cleaned, inspected, and performed nuclear plant maintenance on PPL’s Susquehanna Steam Electric Station this past spring. The nuclear power plant, located in Luzerne County, PA, produces 63 million kilowatt hours per day. This is one of The Merrick Group’s annually contracted spring refueling and inspection outages. As is standard for the company’s performance, the Duke Energy and PPL jobs were completed on time, on budget and without safety incidents.

This spring, The Merrick Group technicians also went to Washingtonville, PA to perform mechanical maintenance, heat exchanger cleaning, scraping of 72,000 condenser tubes and other tasks at PPL’s Montour Power Plant. The company has contractually serviced the plant’s spring and fall outages for 15 years.

The Merrick Group, a hydro excavation service provider also proudly teamed with the U.S. Navy and the EST Group to service the USS Essex in Sasebo, Japan this spring. Services included 10,000-psi hydrolazing of heat exchanger tubes for re-sleeving to improve operational efficiency. “Assisting a branch of the U.S. military was a great honor for us,” said John Merrick, owner/president. This was one of many overseas jobs completed by the Pennsylvania company.

This fall, The Merrick Group heads to Palo, IA to perform heat exchanger and condenser cleaning and maintenance at the Duane Arnold Energy Center. Its technicians will also go to the Cooper Nuclear Station outside Brownville, NE and to support on-line cleaning of two main condensers at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Calvert County, MD.

The Merrick Group would also like to announce its upcoming relocation in the fall of 2012. The company is leaving it current location on Allen St. in Hazleton, PA. It’s not moving far, though. The new address will be 100 Unico Dr., Hazleton, PA 18201.
