ICC prosecutor pursues Gaddafi son trial

According to sources, Ocampo arrived in Tripoli, the Libyan capital on Wednesday to follow up on the case of Saif al-Islam who is being held in prison since his capture.

The Hague-based court and Libya’s ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) have been locked in a legal dispute as to who should try the 39-year-old man.

The ICC charged Saif al-Islam with crimes against humanity over the killing of civilian protesters during last year’s mass demonstrations against the regime of his father, who was deposed in August 2011 after 42 years of authoritarian rule.

Tripoli insists Saif al-Islam should face trial at home before a Libyan court, but the ICC wants him to be sent to The Hague for trial.

Saif al-Islam was arrested in November 2011 following the death of his father and the fall of Tripoli.
