The Trump brand has taken quite a hit since Donald became the 45th president of the United States. But the problems for the Trump Organization began months before November 8th.
During last year’s campaign, “rates for rooms at Trump’s new D.C. hotel [were] being slashed” because travelers were choosing to patronize other hotel chains. And the entire hotel chain saw their online rating drop by 40% as sites such as Yelp confirmed.
When all the ratings data was analyzed, Trump’s 29 properties’ were downgraded to 3.7 stars out of 5.
And now guests who stayed at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas called the Sin City Resort are complaining that bed bugs “in the middle of their mattresses” were on “late-night feeding frenzies where they were the food.”
As recently as March 10th of this year, one guest described the bed bugs as “horrible” and explained that she had “stayed at so many places around the world, and have never gotten bed bug bites.”
What’s worse is that when this guest told the hotel staff about the problem, she said “they could care less” about doing “something to help.” And in the end, their idea of fixing the problem was to “comp her for one night of her two-night stay.”
This call into question the quality of Trump’s hotel chain, but those inquires could also be extended to Ivanka Trump’s life-style brand arm of the Trump Organization.
A new report from China Labor Watch (CLW) details the horrendous working conditions at a contracted manufacturer Huajian Group, a conglamorate that owns 15 facilities that (among other things) makes shoes for Ivanka’s corporation.
This human rights monitor explained that they sent a letter to Ivanka Trump last April to inform her of numerous labor violations committed by Huajian Group, including forcing workers into 12 ½ hour days for less than a dollar an hour.
These allegations pose a problem for Ivanka who has still not divested from her company to this day.
Journalist Rachel Abrams points out that while Ivanka “handed over day-to-day control of her company to her top executive, Abigail Klem, and transferred its assets to a new trust overseen by relatives of her husband”, the particulars of this agreement “have not been disclosed” which causes concerns over how much control Ivanka still has “over the brand that bears her name”.
Based on information provided by Ivanka’s attorney, she is “the sole beneficiary” of a trust she set up called the Ivanka M. Trump Business Trust. And because of this set-up, Ivanka will continue to “receive regular financial reports on her company” and her husband, Jared Kushner, and her sister-in-law were both named as trustees so there is no separation of Ivanka from her company.
