Larry King and his suspenders are back.
After telling the world in 2010 that “it’s time to hang up the nightly suspenders” — subsequently ending his 25-year run as host of CNN’s Larry King Live — he returns this week in a new talk show that will stream on Hulu and Hulu Plus.
On Tuesday, Hulu debuted Larry King Now with a 30-minute episode featuring Ted director and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane (watch above). King’s interviews with Meghan McCain and Matthew McConaughey also will air this week. New episodes will appear every Monday through Thursday at night on Hulu.
“Larry King Now is Larry King doing what he does best — talking with top newsmakers, world leaders and entertainers and exploring issues and current events as no other interviewer can,” Andy Forssell, Hulu’s SVP of content, said in a statement.
Ora TV, a digital TV network King co-founded, gave exclusive rights to Hulu to distribute the talk show. Larry King Now is Ora TV’s first show. Ora TV plans to unleash more talk, comedy and unscripted shows on Hulu.
The 78-year-old King has interviewed more than 40,000 people in his 50-plus years in broadcasting. This week, he touted Hulu’s capabilities and his ability to adapt to the ever-changing digital landscape:
“I have always been driven to innovate, from my time on radio, to the first call-in show on national television, to being an early adopter of online columns and Twitter,” King said. “I am thrilled about our partnership with Hulu — I love being able to interact directly with audiences, and digital TV allows me to do this in new and powerful ways.”
The addition of Larry King Now expands on Hulu’s efforts that began in summer 2011 to bring more original programming to its users and paid subscribers. Earlier this year, Hulu announced it would launch 10 shows this summer, including a talk show of sorts about movies dubbed Spoilers with Kevin Smith.
