‘HR report on Iran fraught with fibs’

“Unfortunately, human rights is a tool in the hands of the Western countries, particularly the US, to pressure independent countries,” IRIB quoted Ayatollah Larijani as saying in a meeting with senior Iranian judicial officials in Tehran on Wednesday.

He added that the United States and European states fully support Israel’s crimes, while claiming advocacy for human rights in sovereign countries such as Iran that do not act in accordance with their principles, values and regulations and do not succumb to the Western powers’ cruelties.

Larijani said the UN human rights report against Iran was another example of the West’s disgrace in claiming support for human rights.

“Almost all people in the world know that the Western countries are not honest in their human rights claims. Otherwise, they will never keep silent on killing of people in Bahrain or commit crimes in Afghanistan and other countries,” the judiciary chief said.

He also noted that the Western powers have come to the realization that the Iranian nation and the Islamic establishment would never yield to pressure, and are aware of their lies about Iran.

On June 17, 2011, the UN Human Rights Council, under the pressure from the United States and its allies, named former Maldivian Foreign Minister Ahmed Shaheed as its human rights investigator on Iran.

Tehran says the appointment of a UN Special rapporteur on Iran’s human rights is a selective, politically-motivated and unacceptable move.

Iran also blames the Western governments, the US administration in particular, for the breach of international law, disregard for the basic rights of their own citizens and support for the violation of human rights across the globe.
