Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said in a Friday statement that the US forces are likely to continue the desecration of Islamic sanctities.
Al-Houthi added that Muslim nations should condemn the desecration of the Holly Qur’an because accepting the apology of the Americans will be “of no benefit.”
The statement comes as outrage against the burning of the copies of the Holy Qur’an by US-led forces in Afghanistan is spreading in Muslim countries.
On the fourth day of the anti-US protests, thousands of protesters took to the streets of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Malaysia and Bangladesh to voice their outrage over the desecrating move.
On February 20, US-led soldiers burned the copies of the Holy Qur’an and other Islamic reading materials at the US-run Bagram Airbase, southeast of the city of Charikar in the Afghan province of Parwan.
US President Barack Obama has sent a letter to his Afghan counterpart Karzai, apologizing for the burning of the copies of the Holy Qur’an by American forces in Afghanistan.
Obama claimed that the incident, which has sparked angry protests against the US and NATO forces, was not intentional.
