Hillary Clinton ignores Monica Lewinsky taunts in Egypt

Others battered a poster of Mrs Clinton with the soles of their shoes, a sign
of deep disrespect in the Arab world.

Speaking at a press conference in Israel, America’s top diplomat insisted that
protests “are part of the fabric of a democracy”.

“Seeing people express themselves, even though their assumptions and
conclusions were absolutely wrong, is a sign of that freer environment that
Egypt now enjoys. It is also evidence that the Egyptian people are still
concerned about the future,” she said.

Mrs Clinton added that she was “was relieved that nobody was hurt, [but]
I felt bad that good tomatoes were wasted” during the demonstration on
Sunday. An Egyptian official was hit in the face with a tomato but not
injured.

Meanwhile, members of the Muslim Brotherhood brawled with political opponents
yesterday during a court hearing intended to further define the powers of
Egypt’s newly-elected president, Mohamed Morsi.

The fighting between Mr Morsi’s supporters and proponents of the military
council forced the judges to suspend the hearing, further deepening the
country’s chaotic transition towards civilian rule.

Despite having won the presidential election in June, Mr Morsi has yet to form
a cabinet and the country is still without a constitution.
