Townsville councillor Jenny Hill will be the city’s new mayor, the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) says.
With about 54 per cent of the vote counted, Ms Hill (32.7 per cent) was leading fellow councillor Dale Last (30.10 per cent) by 1587 votes.
LGAQ chief executive Greg Hallam says he is confident Ms Hill will claim victory.
“I’ve had people in the booths counting preferences and I have no doubt Hill will win,” he said.
