On Friday, PIA flight PK-586 en route to the city of Bahawalpur in eastern Pakistan returned to Jinnah International Airport in Karachi after a stewardess informed the captain of the hijacking threat, AFP reported.
“Soon after the plane took off, a passenger on board warned the staff that he could hijack the plane… The captain was informed of the situation, who returned the plane back after getting the nod from the control tower,” PIA spokesman Sultan Hassan said.
After landing, the passenger was arrested and the plane was evacuated.
On April 20, a Bhoja Air Boeing 737 en route from Karachi to Islamabad crashed near Islamabad airport, killing all 127 people on board. It was determined that accident occurred due to bad weather.
