Lancaster, Pa.-based High Hotels Ltd.’s Homewood Suites by Hilton Harrisburg-West in Mechanicsburg, Pa., has earned the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR certification. Located in the Rossmoyne Business Center, the property is one of 12 hotels in Pennsylvania that currently holds ENERGY STAR certification according to the ENERGY STAR website directory.

Additionally the hotel’s owner High Hotels is recognized as a Green Plus™-certified company, the Institute for Sustainable Development’s highest level of recognition for triple-bottom-line sustainability.
“High Hotels is committed to providing environmentally sound options for our guests through a robust strategy of reducing impact on the environment,” said Michael Fruin, President of High Hotels. “We will continue to work toward growing the number of facilities in our portfolio that qualify for Energy Star certification,” Fruin said.
About ENERGY STAR certification
An ENERGY STAR certified facility meets strict energy performance standards set by EPA, using less energy and causing fewer greenhouse gas emissions than its peers. Energy use in commercial buildings and manufacturing plants accounts for nearly half of all energy consumption in the U.S. at a cost of over $200 billion per year, more than any other sector of the economy. Commercial and industrial facilities are also responsible for nearly half of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change.
To qualify for the ENERGY STAR, a building or manufacturing plant must earn a 75 or higher on EPA’s 1-100 energy performance scale, indicating that the facility performs better than at least 75 percent of similar buildings nationwide. The ENERGY STAR energy performance scale accounts for differences in operating conditions, regional weather data, and other important considerations.
