A senior Hells Angels member has been charged and drugs and a gun have been seized in a police raid on the bikie gang’s Melbourne headquarters.
Officers from the Echo Taskforce executed a search warrant on Monday at the Hells Angels clubhouse at Alphington in the city’s northeast, as well as a neighbouring home owned by the club.
A 68-year-old man, who police say lived at the house in Heidelberg Road and is a long-time gang member, was handcuffed and led from the property to a waiting police car at about 2.30pm (AEST).
The man said to reporters: “Hello, how are you all doing?”
Acting Detective Inspector Dave De Francesco said a handgun and small quantities of cannabis and white powder were seized from the premises.
The Hells Angel member was at home when police arrived but did not confront them, and officers had “no issues” getting inside, Det Insp De Franceso said.
The man was later charged with possessing amphetamine and cannabis and granted bail to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on September 19.
Det Insp De Franceso said the raid was linked to searches at five homes across Melbourne last week in the suburbs of Narre Warren, Mordialloc, Hampton Park, Cranbourne and Cranbourne East.
In those raids, police uncovered guns, drugs, a pipebomb and a clandestine laboratory and arrested seven men.
Victoria Police formed Echo Taskforce in February last year to target motorcycle gangs’ illegal activity.
