The Mi-17 helicopter of the Pakistan Army’s aviation wing was returning from sortie to the Gyari sector of Siachen when it crashed near the airport in Skardu town on Wednesday.
According to initial reports, the pilot tried landing the helicopter at the nearest airbase, but it crash after catching fire.
The cause of the accident is yet unknown and under investigation.
Pakistan’s military has had several crashes involving helicopters over the past several years.
In June 2011, a military helicopter carrying the head of the Punjab province crashed into the Indus River in eastern Pakistan, killing all four people onboard.
