Helen Woodward’s Sophie steals hearts across our nation

Last week a two-year-old Maltipoo named Sophie was attacked and injured by coyotes in her own yard while protecting her seven-month-old sister, Lulu. Due to the dangerous situation, the owners of Sophie and Lulu decided to relinquish their beloved pets to Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) in Rancho Santa Fe, California.

Sophie was patched up and it was estimated that within two weeks she would be able to be adopted just as Lulu had a few days after arriving at HWAC. It was announced today that not only did the citizens of the United States become attracted to Sophie’s story, but she has literally taken the U.S. by storm!

Not only do the employees of Helen Woodward love the dog’s gentle nuzzles and friendly tail wags, she also won the hearts of dog-lovers across America not only for her bravado, but for her irresistible nature! The young dog suffered multiple bite wounds from the coyote across her neck, shoulder and side, but this has not affected her charm even one little bit.

HWAC’s excellent veterinarians patched the dog up and she is thriving in their care. Her heart-wrenching story quickly gained media attention. Shepard Smith of Fox National News eventually got word and kept the story going. Fox aired Sophie’s story and HWAC’s contact data while she was healing from her latest procedure; one to repair her most serious neck injury.

From there calls began pouring in from all over the nation. The HWAC adoption staff have revealed that adoption applications for Sophie have arrived from as far away at Billings, Montana, Columbia, South Carolina, Washington D.C., Eugene, Oregon, Camden, New Jersey, Detroit, Michigan, West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Las Vegas, Nevada, just to name a few.

Due to the large number of requests for this heroin dog, the Helen Woodward gang is now requesting that those interested in adopting Sophie submit a 300 word-or-less essay to accompany their adoption application. The essay should stipulate why they believe that Sophie would be best suited if they should be the ones chosen to adopt her.

“It is going to be a very difficult decision,” stated Shannon Bush, Customer Service Lead, “but Sophie is worth it. She really embodies every characteristic people hope to find in a furry family member…loyalty, heart and sincere devotion. She also happens to be really, really cute.”

The goal is to unite Sophie with her new family in time for Valentine’s Day. If you are interested in adopting the little Maltipoo, please get your application and essay in before the deadline of February 10th.
