HE>i is short for “He is Greater than I” and is inspired by John 3:30, “He must become greater and greater; we must become less and less.” The owners, a group of young entrepreneurs, came up with the idea in 2003. “While trying to think of something clever to put on the main screen of a Nokia phone, the ‘>’ symbol seemed to stick out. John 3:30 (from the Bible) came to mind. It’s one of our all-time favorite verses,” states the company’s website’s about page. “The phrase ‘HE>i’ stuck on the phone for a few days and rapidly caught on amongst our group of friends. It was then that we decided to print up some shirts and stickers with the logo on it.”
Today, the company has grown into a business that is inspired not only inspired in a faith in God but also, the Bible, art, friendship, surf and skate. Its’ products are shipped all over the United States and sometimes further. This month, He>i will be celebrating its second store on the island in Honolulu. Still, many are unaware of the company.
“We are very selective with where we sell out products. So, our gear can only be purchased on our website, in our shops on the North Shore and Honolulu, events we attend, and a handful of select retail shops. In the future we hope to open more HE>i stores!”
