On Tuesday Hamas released a statement stressing that the idea of dissolving the armed wing of the resistance factions, specifically Al-Qassam Brigades, is totally out of the question as a means to achieving reconciliation with Fatah and reaching a unified authority in the Palestinian territories.
Hamas MP Yahya Moussa accused those calling for the dissolution of the armed wings of the resistance in order to achieve national reconciliation of being “delusional”, noting that the reconciliation with Fatah will not be at the expense of the Palestinian resistance. He also pointed out that the military wing acts as the national Palestinian army, rather than the Palestinian National Security Forces associated with the Palestinian Authority.
In response to the demands from Fatah and the PA to dissolve the resistance military wings as a prerequisite to national reconciliation in order to create one authority for all Palestinians,in reference to the armed resistance, led by Al-Qassam Brigades, Moussa told Al-Quds Al-Arabi ,”when someone uses this logic, they are speaking regardless of the national context and disregarding the framework governing people under occupation; a framework of resistance.”
He added, “The framework that governs us with regards to the occupation is the fire, the bullet, and the rifle. Hamas only rose to power in order to carry the rifle, and when the Palestinian Authority becomes the obstacle in the face of liberating Palestine, then it becomes worthless and meaningless.”
As for the demands to dissolve armed militias in the Gaza Strip, leading up to the restoration of national unity under a unified Palestinian authority, on the grounds that there cannot be armed wing forces within the Palestinian Authority, Moussa said, “this is out of the question, and even the logic is unthinkable; we will not listen to those making the demands.” He also stressed that the dissolution of the armed wings of the resistance groups in Gaza “is impossible. Although in politics we do not talk about the impossible, such talk is out of context, off the table, and unrelated to national reconciliation.” He also noted that they will not dissolve the armed wings to achieve Palestinian reconciliation and refuse to reconcile with Fatah at the expense of the resistance.
