Hamas asks Abbas not to level charges without proof

World Bulletin/News Desk

The Palestinian faction Hamas on Saturday asked Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to present whatever information available to him about the bombing of homes owned by some senior members of his Fatah movement in the Gaza Strip on Friday.

“The Palestinian Authority President should stop leveling accusations without evidence,” Moshir al-Masri, a senior Hamas official, said.

“We urge the president to bring forth all the information he has to concerned agencies so that the facts can be clear,” he added in a statement.

Abbas said on Saturday that he had information about the people who carried out a series of coordinated attacks against the homes of several Fatah leaders in the Gaza Strip on Friday. The bombings did not leave any human casualties behind, but left the homes in bad condition.

Hamas, for its part, decried the attacks, describing them as “criminal.”

Fatah, on the other hand, said the bombings would undermine the pillars on which a recent reconciliation deal with Hamas was built.

However, the occupied West Bank faction did not directly accuse Hamas or any other movement of carrying out the attacks.

Hamas and Fatah signed a reconciliation deal in April aimed at ending seven years of division.

The deal led to the creation in June of a national unity government that has not assumed control of the Gaza Strip yet.
