Gunmen kill four family members in Iraq

“Unknown gunmen broke into a house in the village of Abu Garma and killed a 45-year-old woman and her three children who were between 10 and 15 years old,” Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed al-Karkhi said on Friday.

He added that the attack probably occurred in the early hours of Friday, and the bodies of the victims were found about 9:00 a.m. (0600 GMT) by a family member.

The attack took place after ten people were killed and 18 others wounded when two explosions struck a popular coffee shop in the same village.

Security sources said on Thursday that the first explosion, set off by a car bomber, killed 10 people and wounded 15 others. The second bomb, planted inside the coffee shop, wounded three more people.

“We received 10 bodies and 18 wounded,” Abdul-Razaq Hussein, a doctor in Baquba hospital, said.

Meanwhile, a roadside bomb and a car bomb exploded in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Thursday, killing 5 civilians and wounding 27 others.

The blast happened in the Sadr city area and targeted an Iraqi army checkpoint. The car bomb exploded in the Hurriya district and appeared to be aimed at a passing police patrol.

Six members of the security forces were among the wounded, police sources said.

Although violence in Iraq has dropped sharply from its height in 2006-07, bombings and killings still occur on a daily basis.
