The Foundation for Fundamental Rights (FFR) filed the petitions in Peshawar’s High Court on Wednesday.
The petitions are on behalf of the relatives of over 50 tribesmen killed in a single non-UN-sanctioned US drone attack in March 2011, the organization said.
FFR legal director Barrister Shahzad Akbar, who filed the petitions, asked the court to order the Pakistani Air Force to shoot down US assassination drones that violate Pakistan’s airspace.
North Waziristan and other tribal regions in northwestern Pakistan have been frequently targeted by US drones over the past few years.
Washington claims its airstrikes target militants, but official reports show that civilians are the main victims of the air raids.
Islamabad has repeatedly condemned the attacks as a violation of its sovereignty.
According to Shahzad Akbar, the Pakistani human rights lawyer, over 2,800 of the 3,000 people killed over the past seven years in the non-UN-sanctioned US assassination drone strikes in Pakistan were civilians.
The aerial attacks were initiated by former US President George W. Bush, but pursued more fiercely under President Barack Obama’s administration.
