The Australian Greens will continue to support the Labor government should Kevin Rudd be returned as prime minister, the party’s leader Christine Milne says.
Senator Milne was commenting on media reports on Sunday that Labor whip Joel Fitzgibbon was openly canvassing Labor MPs to return Mr Rudd to the party leadership.
She said her party would continue to support Labor in parliament should its leadership change.
“I fully expect her (Ms Gillard) to be there until the next election,” she told Sky News on Sunday.
“But if Labor changes its mind and changes its leader, then the Greens will continue to work with the Labor party in the context of our agreement and we’d discuss that with any new leader.”
She said she had a good working relationship with Ms Gillard.
“I intend to continue to work in a very constructive way with her,” Senator Milne said.
Following the 2010 election, Ms Gillard and former Greens leader Bob Brown signed a deal for the Greens to support a minority Labor government.
