NBC’s The Voice has rounded out its star-studded cast for season three, roping in Green Day rocker Billie Joe Armstrong to be a mentor to the contestants on judge Christina Aguilera’s team.
Armstrong joins recently announced mentors Michael Buble, Mary J. Blige and Matchbox 20 frontman Rob Thomas, who will join judges Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green. Season three will start Sept. 10.

“[The Voice is] not molding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover,” Armstrong told The Associated Press on why the show succeeds.
Mentors during season two were Alanis Morissette, Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert and Robin Thicke.

The Voice also introduced voting via a slick Facebook Timeline app. The result: 145 worldwide Twitter trending topics, 13% rise for online’s vote share and 38% jump in votes per unique user, NBC told Mashable.
