We are determined to do what it takes and do it fast,” Mr Samaras said.
He promised the country would fulfil its commitments to euro zone partners and
said he would try to introduce growth policies to boost the country’s
struggling economy.
Meanwhile, Greece’s radical left leader Alexis Tsipras said his party’s fight
against punishing austerity measures was a “great accomplishment”
despite its election loss.
Mr Tsipras, a former communist and student protest leader, conceded defeat but
vowed to spearhead opposition to Greece’s austerity drive.
“Some believe that they won the elections,” Tsipras told cheering
Syriza supporters in Athens.
“The people have won the elections, because now they can not proceed with
bailout agreements and they recognise this, both in Greece and in Brussels.
“They know this very well and they owe it to us. Because of your fight, this
is a great accomplishment that we share with all the people of Europe,”
he added.
