Great Return March Continues on Ninth Consecutive Friday

The Palestinian popular peaceful mass protests near the Gaza border fence, known as the Great Return March, go on for the ninth week, and the organisers stress on its continuation until the Israeli occupation fulfils their legitimate demands.

Ahmad Abu-Rtima, the spokesperson of the National Higher Committee for the Great Return March said last Sunday, “The march will not stop, but when the siege is lifted and refugees are back to their homeland, even if this will take twenty years.”

Although the march is purely peaceful, the Israeli occupation forces have met the  mass demonstrations with disproportionate and lethal force, leaving 114 Palestinian martyrs and over 3200 casualties among Palestinian civilians so far, which evoked vehement international condemnation to the occupation’s shocking reactions.

The Israeli occupation forces said that it insists on its violent policies to deter the Palestinian protesters, given that none of the Great Return Match’s organizers has declared that the demonstrations will turn into violence.

The Palestinians main demand is the implementation of the UN 194 Resolution, which stipulates that, “refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date”.

Over the past seven decades, the Israeli occupation has declined to abide by this resolution, depriving almost five millions of Palestinian refugees to go back and live peacefully in their homeland from which they were forcibly displaced in 1948 by Zionist gangs.

The mass demonstrations, furthermore, are intended to call on the international community, UN, and human rights organizations to intervene for lifting or at least easing one-decade-long blockade imposed by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip since Hamas took over power through democratic elections in 2006.
