A northern NSW pub has been fined almost $3,000 for allowing a drunk patron to stay at the premises following a local horserace, even after he fell off a deck.
The NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing (OLGR) said in a statement on Friday that the Grafton Post Office Hotel was fined $2,700 for the incident, which occurred at 10pm after the Grafton Cup on July 14 last year.
The clearly drunk man was seen swaying and bumping into people and had to be helped by security guards after falling from a deck area, the statement said.
However, he wasn’t asked to leave.
He fell over again and was eventually removed after officers from OLGR spoke to the hotel management.
OLGR Director of Compliance Paul Newson said the fine should act as a warning for licensed premises to abide by their responsibilities under the terms of the responsible service of alcohol act.
“Licensees and their staff must follow responsible service of alcohol rules or face prosecution,” he said in a statement.
Licencees and bar staff who breach the law can be fined up to $11,000.
