GPS Shoes Guide You Home With a Click of the Heels [VIDEO]

With a simple click of the heels, a pair of GPS shoes may make it easier to find your way home.

Created by British designer Dominic Wilcox, the “No Place Like Home GPS Shoes” are programmed to guide you back to your abode “no matter where you are in the world.”

Wilcox was inspired by The Wizard of Oz‘s protagonist, Dorothy Gale, who embarks on a quest to return home after finding herself in the fantasy land of Oz.

“I thought about [the film] and how Dorothy could click her shoes together to go home,” he says on his official website. “I drew an illustration that I etched onto the sole, and chose a red calf leather for the inside as a small reference to Dorothy’s red shoes.”

A fully functional prototype, the bespoke pair of men’s leather shoes include a GPS receiver embedded in the left heel, and an antenna in a red tag attached to the back.

Users must upload their preferred destination to the shoes via a custom-made mapping software and USB cable; then, to activate the GPS, they simply click their heels.

Each toe box features a series of LED lights: The right shoe has a progress bar showing how far the wearer has to go, while the left shoe shows a ring of lights that points the wearer in the right direction.

The shoes were commissioned as part of Northamptonshire, England’s Global Footprint Project, which celebrates the county’s historic boot and shoe industry.
