The O’Farrell government must crack down on illegal logging and protect forests in NSW, the opposition says.
A sharp spike in illegal logging had occurred while Environment Minister Robyn Parker had been in office, opposition environment spokesman Luke Foley said on Friday.
“Minister Parker is presiding over a substantial increase in illegal forestry activity in places like the Royal Camp State Forest in northern NSW,” he said in a statement.
“We need an environment minister in NSW who is willing to fight for our environment and native flora and fauna.”
Friday is national school tree planting day and Mr Foley, who will be inspecting forestry activity in the Royal Camp state forest near Casino, has called on Ms Parker to use the impetus of the day to take action.
“The least Environment Minister Robyn Parker can do on national school tree planting day is crack down on the illegal logging that is occurring on her watch,” he said.
“You wouldn’t want to be a tree in NSW with Robyn Parker as environment minister.”
