The federal and New South Wales governments have today announced they are joining forces to upgrade one of the most notorious sections of the Pacific Highway.

Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese says the duplication of the Pacific Highway between Frederickton, north of Kempsey, and Eungai will start next year.

The project will take in Clybucca, which 20 years ago, was the site of one of the nation’s worst ever road crashes.

The Minister says the Commonwealth will also bring forward an extra $750 million in highway spending, to be matched dollar for dollar by NSW.

Tenders for the almost 30 kilometre Frederickton to Eungai upgrade will now be called.

The project is expected to be completed in mid-2013.
