Google’s Nexus 7 Jelly Bean tablet gets UK delivery dates

British electronics sellers Dixons and Carphone Warehouse have revealed the dates in July when they expect to have Google’s first tablet, the Nexus 7, on sale.

Dixons, which owns high-street stores PC World and Currys, expects to start handing over the Android Jelly Bean-powered Nexus 7 to shoppers on 19 July, it said on the pre-order web page. Carphone Warehouse buyers will have to wait just over a week longer, as the store said on its website it expects stock to come in on 27 July.

Google Nexus 7When the Nexus 7 was announced at the end of June, Google said it would arrive in mid-July, and the pre-order page on Google Play says right now that it will ship in “2-3 weeks”.

The release of the Nexus 7 will mark a couple of ‘firsts’: it’s the first time Google has directly sold a tablet to customers, and it will be the first device to ship with Android 4.1, also known as Jelly Bean.

On top of that, the tablet comes at a cheap price, given its specs: it has a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, a 12-core GPU, and a seven-inch touchscreen display at 1,280×800-pixel resolution.

Dixons is listing the 16GB tablet at £199, while Carphone Warehouse has it at a penny under £200. Google’s own price for that model is also £199, and it is also selling an 8GB version for £159.
