Google is sporting a new logo (doodle) today. They are celebrating the 366th birthday of Maria Sibylla Merian. She was born April 2, 1647 and died January 13, 1717. She was born in Frankfurt, now part of the German Democratic Republic. It was part of the Holy Roman Empire at her birth.
Maria Sibylla Merian was a naturalist. She was not well known but her studies were significant. She studied plants and insects and made very detailed drawings of them. She studied the metamorphosis of butterfiles.
