A GOLD Coast nightclub promoter who plunged 31 floors to his death from a Surfers Paradise highrise was murdered over a disputed drug deal, police have revealed.
Police allege Tumara Cousins was fleeing two gun-toting men who had come to his Beachcomber Resort unit to buy more than $20,000 in amphetamines.
When a dispute arose over the quality of the drugs, the men allegedly pulled guns, Mr Cousins ran and fell off his balcony.
Court documents allege Mr Cousins, a 29-year-old father, was also bashed with a blunt instrument.
Alleged bikie gang associate Christopher James Cairns was arrested at the weekend and charged with Mr Cousins’ murder, as well as robbery and possessing a dangerous drug.
Cairns, 24, was excused from appearing personally in Southport Magistrates Court to face the charges but was represented by solicitor Mark Williams.
Mr Williams did not apply for bail and Cairns was remanded in custody until July 23.
Outside court, Mr Williams said his client would be “vigorously defending” the charges.
