Police ethical standards officers are investigating the death of a 13-year-old girl in a car crash in south-east Queensland last night.

The accident happened at Ipswich about 7:00pm AEST.

Police received a triple-0 call about a disturbance at a house in Collingwood Park and a report of a 13-year-old girl stealing her foster carer’s car.

As police were heading there they spotted the stolen sedan at an intersection with the young girl in the driver’s seat.

The police officers flashed their lights hoping to stop her, but it did not work and she sped off down the road.

Two officers decided not to pursue after realising it was a young teenager behind the wheel.

Witnesses have told police the stolen car crashed into a large tree at a bend on Kruger Parade and the teenager was killed instantly.
