A TODDLER has died in a Melbourne hospital this morning after she was struck by a ute in Pakenham last night.
The two-year-old girl was hit by a Holden ute as she made her way on to residential Henty St just after 6pm.
She was in cardiac arrest when Ambulance Victoria arrived on the scene.
Two teams of paramedics worked for 30 minutes to resuscitate her.
Intensive care paramedics flew the toddler to the Royal Children’s Hospital at about 7.30pm.
“She suffered head and chest injuries,” an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said.
Tragically, the girl died at 4.30am today.
A police spokeswoman said investigators from the Major Collision Investigation Unit were investigating the incident last night.
The driver of the vehicle was assisting police with their inquiries.
The latest death brings the state’s road toll to 267, three more than the same time last year.
