More than 2,000 armed riot police have been deployed to the major border crossings of that country with Austria after German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere announced that the borders between those two nations would be closed after more than 16,000 nonwhite invaders entered Germany in a single day.
De Maiziere’s unexpected announcement is also the first clear sign of a serious split in the ranks of the Merkel government.
Speaking to reporters, De Maiziere said that the “The aim of these measures is to limit the current inflows to Germany and to return to orderly procedures when people enter the country.”
He added that this step was “also necessary for security reasons”—the first formal admission that the influx of invaders contain a serious risk of crime and terrorism.
According to Germany’s Bild newspaper, some 16,000 invaders arrived at the Munich railway station between Saturday morning (September 12) and Sunday the next day, adding to the 63,000 who have come to the city over the past ten days.
Austria’s ORF state media reported that the German border control was also being spread out to cover a “dragnet” near the borders with the Czech Republic and Poland in order to prevent the Austrian borders being bypassed. In response to the German move, the Czech government has also started closing its borders, with its Interior Minister Milan Chovanec confirming that many of the invaders were already trying to get into Germany via the Czech Republic.
A report in Austria’s Die Presse newspaper revealed that the influx entering Austria from Hungary shows no signs of slowing down, and in the town of Nickelsdorf on the Austro-Hungarian border, more than 10,000 invaders arrived during the daylight hours of Saturday, September 12.
The Austrian army has also been called out, with six of the nine major military commands placed on a 24 hours standby, Die Presse reported.
The increased influx into Austria is directly related to the fact that the Hungarian parliament has just passed a new immigration law, effective from Tuesday, September 15, which imposes imprisonment for illegal border crossings and rapid deportation of “economic migrants.”
Hungary will also have its physical border barrier completed by September 15. Consisting of a 13-foot-high fence along Hungary’s 110-mile border with Serbia, it should contribute greatly to halting the nonwhite invasion—at least through Hungary.
Almost 4,000 soldiers have been drafted in to finish the wall in time, and prisoners have also been brought from a nearby jail to help.
Incredibly, the UN refugee agency has warned that criminalizing illegal border crossings could violate the UN Convention on Refugees if it involved asylum seekers.
But Hungarian president Viktor Orban has said that his nation is merely fulfilling its legal obligations as a member of the Schengen passport-free zone with an exterior border.
In an interview with Germany’s Bild newspaper, published on Saturday, he blamed Merkel’s decision to relax asylum laws for the crisis.
“Before, our authorities had the situation under control, even if it was tough. Once the German announcement was made… chaos broke out,” he said, accusing European leaders of “living in a dream world.”
“The influx is endless: from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mali, Ethiopia, Nigeria. If they are all going to come here, then Europe is going to go under,” he said. “Immigration will mean that Muslims will be in the majority in Europe in the foreseeable future.”
