Gaza sole power plant runs out of fuel

The Gaza Strip’s only power plant announced that it is unable to operate more than one generator after exhausting its fuel reserves.

In a statement, the electricity supplier said that the eight-hour daily electricity schedule had been already reduced to only six hours.

Even at full capacity, Egyptian and Israeli electricity grids, together with Gaza’s sole power plant, fail to cover the Gaza Strip’s energy needs.

The Israeli crippling siege on the Gaza Strip has meant that the power plant has not run at full capacity in years.

Almost every week, there is a problem with the electricity schedule due to claimed damage in the Israeli or Egyptian grids.

Sometimes, full cities across the Gaza Strip have full blackout for a several days.
