The funeral for injured chef Matt Golinski’s wife and three daughters has been delayed until he wakes from his coma, his family has revealed.

Mr Golinski has been in an induced coma with burns to 40 per cent of his body for eight days.

When he wakes, he will be told the news his wife Rachael and three daughters Starlia, 10, and 12-year-old twins Sage and Willow, perished in the Tewantin blaze on Boxing Day.

A spokeswoman for the family said the funerals were being put on hold until Mr Golinski has opened his eyes.

“The family is just really focusing on Matt’s recovery at the moment, then they will think about the funerals,” she said.

In the meantime, Mr Golinski’s business partners Owen Exton and Tannille Maneylaws have set up a recovery fund to help the celebrity chef with any financial struggles he might have in his recovery.

The family spokeswoman said they would talk to Mr Golinski about how he would use the money when he wakes, but it could go towards funeral costs.

Ms Maneylaws said they had got the idea from clients who were asking about how they could help.

“This past week has been extremely difficult for all those who know Matt and his family,” she said.

“Although thankfully it now seems that Matt will survive this terrible ordeal, his road to recovery will unfortunately be a very long one.

“At the suggestion of one of our valued clients, a recovery fund has been set up to channel the overwhelming level of support and love that has been directed toward Matt and his family into a practical way of aiding his ongoing physical and emotional recovery.”
