A 22-year-old French man has been charged over the fatal stabbing of a man outside a Broome pub in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Police allege the 32-year-old victim was stabbed after being involved in a number of altercations outside the Bungalow Bar.

Thomas Camus has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm but the charges could be upgraded after an autopsy.

The victim, who was from South Hedland, left the Bungalow Bar nightclub alone about 2am AWDT.

He came across a group of people and a fight broke out and he was left injured on the ground.

He was later found by a friend and taken to hospital but he died a short time after.

The French man has appeared in the Broome Magistrates Court and has been remanded in custody.
