A French backpacker has been charged over the fatal stabbing of a man outside a Broome pub in the early hours of Christmas morning.
Major crime has been investigating the fatal stabbing, and today charged Thomas Camus, 22, of Paris, with grievous bodily harm.
Kristopher Dixon, a 32-year-old from South Hedland, was stabbed outside the Bungalow Bar just after 2am on Christmas Day.
Police allege that a fight broke out between Mr Dixon and Mr Camus, as well as several other men before the stabbing.
Mr Camus faced Broome Magistrate’s Court today but was not expected to enter a plea and was remanded in custody to face the Stirling Magistrate’s Court on January 3.
Mr Dixon had recently moved from Perth to take up a traineeship with mining magnate Andrew Forrest’s Fortescue Metals Group in South Hedland in WA’s North-West.
Mr Forrest has paid tribute to Mr Dixon, saying he was an “inspiration” who had been turning his life around after spending time in jail.
Police are calling for witnesses to the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
