The two leading French
presidential candidates held mass rallies in Paris yesterday, a week before
the first round of the election. Nicolas
Sarkozy, for the centre-right UMP, chose the Place de la Concorde, François
Hollande, for the Socialists, the Château de Vincennes. Both sites,
and the numbers who gathered there, were impressive. Unfortunately, the same
cannot be said for the campaigns of the two leaders.
