Four US-led troops killed in Afghan war

According to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), an Afghan interpreter was also killed in an explosion in the country’s east, along with two US-led soldiers.

In a similar attack in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, another two soldiers were killed.

Further details on the soldiers’ nationalities have not been released.

Roadside bombs and improvised explosive devices are by far the most lethal weapon Taliban militants use against foreign troops.

According to official figures released by the website icasualties.org, at least 266 foreign soldiers have lost their lives in war-battered Afghanistan so far this year.

A total of 566 US-led forces died in Afghanistan in 2011. However, 2010 remains the deadliest year on record for foreign military casualties, with a death toll of 711.

Hundreds of civilians have lost their lives in US operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past few months, with Afghans becoming more and more outraged over the seemingly endless number of deadly assaults.
