Amateur footage taken soon after the blast shows the car still in flames
before the emergency services put the fire out.
Israel‘s
embassy in Georgia
was also attacked, the Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson Paul Hirschson
confirmed.
Hirschson said a bomb, which was defused safely by Georgian police, had been
found in a car belonging to a staffer at the embassy in the Georgian capital
Tbilisi.
Israel had put its foreign missions on especially high alert ahead of the Feb
12 anniversary of the assassination, in 2008, of the military mastermind of
Lebanon’s Hezbollah guerrillas, Imad Moughniyeh.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately blamed Iran for the
attacks but Iran quickly denied accusations that it was involved.
