From Texas Forts Trail to radiation technology to choreography, TSTC Publishing offers a wide array of books for 2012.
The Texas Forts Trail is one such title, scheduled for a fall 2012 release. The large coffee table book sports four-color photographs by Derrick Birdsall, historical photos of the forts and information by Kristine Davis about each of nine Texas forts, built to protect pioneers headed west.
The Art of Listening: Intuition and Improvisation in Choreography is another trade title, scheduled for an April 1 release. The book by Darla Johnson explores how to listen to and express one’s creative voice, engage in creative processes, and determine what practices work for a choreographer, along with practical advice on rehearsal and performance etiquette. Those desiring to choreograph professionally will gain insight into what it takes to keep an improvisational mentality, the most basic tool for dance-making.
“We’re excited about these two books,” said Publisher Mark Long. “The forts book will be a great family book for those who want to explore the Texas frontier as it was in the late 1800s.
“The Art of Listening is a great book for high school drill team instructors as well as anyone who wants to explore dance improvisation,” he continued.
These trade books will highlight 2012, but it is TSTC Publishing’s traditional textbook offerings that help it maintain its position as the publishing arm of the Texas State Technical College System.
TSTC Publishing also is adding four new titles to its TechCareer Series. The new books include Aviation Pilots (Feb. 1); Graphic Design (April 1); Radiation Protection Technology (May 1) and Aviation Maintenance (July 1).
The TechCareers Series is a joint effort of TSTC Publishing and TSTC Forecasting. The series’ earlier titles include Biomedical Equipment, Automotive Technicians, Avionics Technician, Wind Energy, Computer Gaming Programmers Artists and Welding Technology. Each book in the series offers employment overviews, skill requirements, education and training information and everything else needed for specific technical careers.
A second wind energy textbook also will arrive in 2012. Introduction to Wind Energy by Keith Plantier and Mike Jones follows Electromechanical Principles of Wind Turbines, one of the industry’s first textbooks, also written by Plantier.
Other 2012 offerings include a second edition to Guide to the Secure Configuration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 by the National Security Administration. The book also is offered in a bundle with Introduction to Linux: A Hands-On Guide.
A second edition of Math for Healthcare Professions by Louie Asuncion will be released in February.
