nsnbc : Former Mozambican Justice Minister Abduremane Lino de Almeida, will have to face trial for abuse of office and undue remuneration.
A first trial date at the Kampfumo Judicial Court in the Mozambican capital Maputo was set for May 31. Ex Justice Minister Abduremane Lino de Almeida is accused by the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC) of making a payment with public money to three persons who had no ties with the state aimed at a 21-day religious visit to Mecca.
GCCC stated that the amount involved a total of 780,000 meticais (EUR 52,000.00). Lino de Almeida stepped down as Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs in March 2016, one year after the inauguration of then newly elected President Filipe.
Nyusi won the presidential elections in the October 2014 general election and represents according to some a generational change that opened the doors for weeding out the systemic corruption that naturally comes to plague a government that has been dominated by one party since the 1990s. The GCCC process had already been instituted when Justice Minister Abduremane Lino de Almeida left office.
