Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says the foreign conspiracies against Syria have reached a dead-end.
Amir-Abdollahian said the Syrian nation and government will continue resistance against foreign plots, IRNA reported.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister made the remark in a press conference after separate talks with Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah and Michel Aoun, the leader of the Lebanese Free Patriotic Movement, in Beirut on Friday.
Amir-Abdollahian also stated that Iran believes foreign interference in the internal affairs of Syria will further complicate the year-long unrest in the country.
On Thursday, Syrian state media said President Bashar al-Assad reiterated his government’s support for a six-point plan proposed by the special envoy to Syria for the United Nations and the Arab League, Kofi Annan, regarding the turmoil in Syria.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad endorsed a new constitution on February 28 as part of the promised reforms in the country. The draft was put to vote in a February 26 referendum and it was approved by the majority of Syrian voters.
President Assad said on March 6 the Syrian people, “who have in the past managed to crush foreign plots… have again proven their capacity to defend the nation and to build a new Syria through their determination to pursue reforms along with the fight against foreign-backed terrorism.”
